James Murua to join the Panel Discussion on African Literature, November 12, 2023

James Murua is a blogger, journalist, and podcaster who has written for a variety of media outlets in a career spanning print and web. He served as an editor for The Star newspaper in Kenya for five years and as a columnist for nine, during which he was voted “Columnist of the Year” in 2009. He has also contributed to Management Magazine (Kenya), The Daily Nation (Kenya), The Nairobian (Kenya), DigifyAfrica.com (South Africa), Johannesburg Review of Books (South Africa), and Africa Independent (South Africa).

His online space, WritingAfrica.com, formerly known as JamesMurua.com since 2013, focuses on literary news and reviews and is the number one blog on African literature in the world today. He was awarded the title of Best Writer in “Theatre, Art and Culture” at Kenya’s Sanaa Theatre Awards and was listed as one of the top men in the digital field in Kenya in 2018. As the judge of the 2020 Caine Prize for African Writing, he also served as the founding chairman of the Kendeka Prize for African Writing, the richest independent literary prize for fiction in East Africa.

James Murua has conducted workshops on blogging and social media in Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, and Tanzania, and he has worked as a media consultant for the Goethe Institut in Nairobi.
