Monitoring Group says only 26% of voters determined Anambra Governorship election

A Civil Society Organisation (CSO), the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), has observed that less than 26 per cent of the over three million registered voters in Anambra State determined the just concluded governorship election. TMG also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to live up to its responsibility, as the commission prepares to conduct election in Ekiti and Osun States next year, adding that Nigerians were tired of excuses bothering on logistical and shortcomings affecting the conduct of elections. The TMG Chair, Ibrahim Zikrullahi, while presenting its post election report yesterday in Abuja, described as worrisome, the widespread voter apathy as recorded during the election. But said the situation should be blamed on Anambra citizens who exhibited negligence to the election process. He added that for the 2015 elections to be credible, INEC must work in partnership with all the political parties and civic organisations to ensure that voter apathy is stamped out of the country’s electoral process.
