Full academic activities will commence in 124 of the 148 Almajiri model schools constructed by the Federal Government by September this year, the Minister of State for Education, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has announced. The Minister spoke at the July edition of the monthly meeting with contractors handling basic education projects for the Federal Government yesterday in Abuja.
Also of the number, 89 Almajiri model schools are being constructed by Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) while 35 have been constructed by Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for the federal government. Wike stated that 100 Almajiri model schools completed by contractors will be handed over to the states after the Ramadan Fast in a symbolic commissioning ceremony to be performed by President Goodluck Jonathan who will be represented by Vice President Namadi Sambo.
