Reps Insist On 4-Year 2 Terms For President, Governors, Others

The House of Representatives committee on Constitution review is seeking the retention of the four year- two- terms for the president, vice president, governors and their deputies. The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon Zakari Mohammed, who stated this yesterday, added that granting of automatic ticket to the president and governors as undemocratic. Hon Zakari Mohammed dropped the hint on the committee’s position during an interview with journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, yesterday.

The House position on tenure is in sharp contrast to the position of the Senate committee on the constitution review which recommended six- year single term for the aforementioned political office holders. He said, “Let everybody go to the field and test his popularity. It means that party men have a say again. The party men must be given the opportunity to select the best of their choice, who can go in and face the other people.
