Federal Government plans year-long celebration of Nigeria’s centenary

Federal Government is planning to mark the 100th anniversary of the amalgamation of the country in 2014 with a year-long events. Nigeria was amalgamated in 1914 with Lord Lugard merging the Northern Nigeria Protectorate with Southern Nigeria.

President Goodluck Jonathan said this during his two-day state visit to Jamaica to celebrate the 178th anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery (Emancipation Day)and the 50th anniversary Independence of the Caribbean country. – http://www.punchng.com/news/fg-plans-year-long-celebration-of-nigerias-centenary/
