Reps order PHCN to blackout police, military over N1.9b debt

THE House of Representatives has directed the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to stop electricity supply to the police, the military and other corporate bodies if they fail to pay their N1.9 billion debt within one month.

At their plenary session at the weekend, the lawmakers asked the Minister of Defence, Haliru Bello and his Police Affairs counterpart, Mr. Caleb Olubolade, to ensure that the debt was paid within one month or risk disconnection. They also asked the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to deduct from source and remit the money to the PHCN if the affected outfits refused to clear the debts within the deadline.

The Lower Chamber also extended the directive to the Head of Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bello Sali, and all the Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs), which are indebted to the PHCN.
