‘11,800 FG Projects Abandoned’

Special Adviser to the President on Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Prof. Sylvester Monye, Tuesday disclosed that about 11,800 projects belonging to the Federal Government were either abandoned or uncompleted nationwide.

He made the disclosure in Abuja at a one-day capacity building workshop on Public Procurement and Effective Budget Implementation, Organised by the Ministry of Education for Principals, Bursars and Secretaries of Tender Board of Federal Government colleges.

The Special Adviser who blamed the situation on the attitudes of Nigerians and the High turn-over rate of civil servants, emphasised the need for public officers to adhere strictly to the Provisions of the Procurement Acts, if they must achieve result in implementing the 2012 Budget.  According to him, “People rather budget for new project instead of completing ongoing ones, and when a new person comes into office, he says that is not my project, the ‘FAT’ of the project has been taken away therefore I have to do my own.”
