INEC Faults PDP Congresses, Orders for Fresh Ones in 9 States

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Wednesday faulted the ward congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), directing the party to conduct fresh ward congresses in nine states where there are recorded faults. The directive by INEC also came on a day the electoral commission said it had not fixed any date for the re-run election for Anambra South Senatorial Zone seat, which was scheduled for March 17.

In a letter signed by INEC’s Secretary, Abdullahi Kaugama, addressed to the National Chairman of PDP, INEC said the congresses in Sokoto, Adamawa, Taraba, Plateau, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Lagos, Anambra and Katisna were not held in line with laid down guidelines for the convention and guidelines. The letter, which was titled: “Ward Congresses of PDP”, and dated March 5 stated that: “The forthcoming local government and state congresses of your party in the above states would be constrained by the respective failure of ward congresses to hold as provided by the constitution of the PDP…”
