Fed Govt to South Africa: stop cruelty to Nigerians

A row has broken out between Nigeria and South Africa over last week’s deportation of 125 Nigerian travellers. The Federal Government at the weekend demanded an explanation from the South African government over the “harsh” treatment meted out to the Nigerians, who were turned back at the Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johanesburg for allegedly carrying fake yellow fever clearance certificates.

The government also vowed to react in a “calculated” manner, depending on the outcome of talks between Nigeria and South Africa today in Pretoria. The Nigerian passengers, comprising 50 on Arik Air and 75 aboard South African Airways, were deported at the point of entry on Friday.
