Police commissioner Hassan Zakari Biu was yesterday dismissed from the Force over his role in last month’s escape of Christmas Day bombing suspect Kabiru Umar alias Kabiru Sokoto. This came as the Police Service Commission announced the appointment of seven new deputy inspectors-general of police and 13 assistant inspectors-general of police. Biu was the officer in charge of terrorism investigation at the Police Zone 7 headquarters in Abuja, and he took over the matter of Kabiru Sokoto after his capture on January 14. Sokoto dramatically escaped a day after his arrest, leading to the suspension of Biu from the Police Force a few days later.
Yesterday, the Police Service Commission said its 26th plenary meeting, presided over by chairman Parry Osayande, approved the firing of Biu over his role in Sokoto’s escape.
