2020: FG eyes number 20 position in ‘Ease of Doing Business’

The Federal Government has said it is targeting the enhancement of its position on ease of doing business from position 144 out of 189 in 2010 and 133 out of 183 countries in 2011 to position 72 and 20 by year 2015 and 2020 respectively. Speaking at a two-day consultative forum on trade facilitation in Lagos, the Minister of Trade and Investment Olusegun Aganga expressed government’s commitment to improve trade across borders, logistic, performance index, global competitiveness index in order to enhance the ranking of Nigeria on the ease of doing business.

Nigeria was ranked number 133 out of 183 countries in the World and number 15 in Africa in terms of less difficulty in doing business by the World Bank Global Doing Business Report 2012.

Represented by the Director of Trade, Mr David Adejuwon, the minister said it was important to appreciate the country’s rating in the global trade, adding that Nigeria is the 3rd fastest growing economy in the world (IMF 2010), after China and India, with a growth rate of 7.2 percent that is expected to increase to double digit growth typical of the Asian Tiger economies.
