The mass literacy dilemma: Why we may miss the 2015 EFA target

Nigeria belongs to a group of nine developing countries with higher population of illiterate citizens in the world. This is apparently because, as at the last count, about 40 million of her citizens are illiterate. Other members of the group, otherwise known as the E9 countries, comprises Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico and Pakistan. It accounts for more than 50 per cent of the world’s population.
