The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammad Sa’ad Abubakar, yesterday assured President Goodluck Jonathan of his commitment to continue to promote peace in the country, saying he is committed to a untied Nigeria. Speaking when Jonathan paid him a courtesy visit at his palace yesterday in Sokoto, the Sultan said: “It is our duty to maintain peace in the state and Nigeria in general. We are also committed to seeing a more united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.”
The Sultan, while pledging his support to the administration of Jonathan, stressed the need for social justice in the country, describing it as the bedrock of good governance. He said Nigerians irrespective of their differences, must put hands together to chart a new course for the country and that the purpose of government was to cater for the welfare of its citizenry. “Without social justice, there will be no development and we should retrace our steps back to God. The fear of God is very crucial. God is compassionate and Nigeria has good people who fear God. He answers prayers and they should therefore be sustained,’’ the sultan stressed.
