Why insecurity persists, by Muslim leaders

DESPERATION to secure and retain political power, greed, corruption, and irresponsibility of government were some of the factors identified yesterday by Muslim leaders as being responsible for insecurity in Nigeria. At a public lecture organised by Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) in Abuja, it was pointed out that deep-seated poverty, injustice and lack of mature religious leaders have continued to worsen the problem of insecurity and breach of peace in Nigeria.

Chairman of the occasion and Chief Imam of the University of Abuja, Dr. Taofeeq Abdulazeez, called on religious bodies to rise up to the occasion and take steps to reduce religious interpretations being attached to the various security breaches.
