Army withdraws soldiers from Lagos streets

THE brewing crisis between the Federal Government and the Lagos State government over the deployment of military personnel to strategic locations in the state during the fuel subsidy strike appeared to have ended as the Army authorities have recalled the soldiers to the barracks. Spokesman of the Nigerian Army in Lagos, Lt.-Col. Kayode Ogunsanya, who confirmed the development, said: “I can confirm to you that we have withdrawn our men from the streets due to a directive from Army Headquarters that we should do so. The Chief of the Army staff directed us to do so based on the decision by the headquarters. Our men have returned to the barracks.”
