House faults UN, US on bomb alerts

The House of Representatives yesterday criticised the United Nations (UN) and the United States of America on the periodic issuance of bomb alerts and travel advice to foreigners and the diplomatic community since the outbreak of bomb attacks in parts of Nigeria. The Chairman, House Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Hon Muhammadu Bello Matawalle, said that the UN had no right to issue such warning to Nigerians, as such an action was an affront to the sovereignty of Nigeria . He described the warnings as “fake and unsubstantiated” and alleged that such alerts coming from foreign bodies were suspect and an indication that those who issue them were privy to the source of terrorist attacks on Nigeria. He said that the issuance of such alerts (security advisories) were capable of aggravating the already precarious security situation in the country.
