Following the Christmas Day bombing of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, which killed 38 persons and left about 86 persons injured, the Catholic Bishop of Minna, Most Rev. Martin Uzokwu, has cancelled all watch night services in Madalla deanery. The Bishop said because of the troubled times in the country occasioned by the spate of bombing, Catholic churches in the affected areas will not hold the traditional midnight services, so that parishioners would spend the night with their families, in the safety of their homes. The bishop, however, warned that the decision was not out of cowardice, but as a result of the reality of the times. He called on Nigerians to pray for the peace of the country. Meanwhile, thousands of people in the various communities in the Southern part of Kaduna State on Thursday held a peaceful procession denouncing the Christmas Day bombing of churches and called on Nigerians to unite against terrorism.
