Mission Fulfilled as Nigeria Returns to Space Two Years After

At exactly 5.41pm Monday, the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited’s (NigComSat) auditorium in Abuja exploded in excitement as staff, visitors and journalists monitored, live on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), the successful launch of Nigeria’s replacement communications satellite, Nigcomsat 1R, into space. Pleased with the successful launch, Managing Director of NigComSat Limited, Timasaniyu Ahmed-Rufai, said: “This is mission fulfilled.”

The communication satellite was launched on a Long March 3B (LM-3B) vehicle from Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in South West China. Two ground stations located in Abuja and Kashi, China, owned by NigComSat, participated in the launch.
