Performance of The Woman of Calabar by Elechi Amadi

The Association of Nigerian Authors, Rivers State presents the stage performance of The Woman of Calabar, a play by Elechi Amadi.

The Woman of Calabar throws light on the erroneous misconception about certain races and peoples in post-colonial Nigeria.

Through the love story of Emem and Adia, the play examines the anachronistic culture where people were not allowed to fall in love, let alone marry someone from Efik background because of the age long perception which assigned witchcraft and fetishism to an average Calabar woman.

The Woman of Calabar is brimming with passion, love, fear and prejudice and is considered one of the most important plays of Elechi Amadi.
